Seattle Gay News has launched GoFundMe campaign
Seattle Gay News recently launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover operating expenses impacted by COVID-19 and the subsequent loss of considerable advertising revenue.
Seattle Gay News and Angela Cragin are organizing this fundraiser.
Seattle Gay News Needs Your Support Now!
As the third oldest LGBTQ+ publication in the U.S, the SGN has been your independent advocate and voice of the LGBTQ+ community in Seattle and Washington state for 47 years.
From gay marriage, child adoption, AIDS, domestic rights, and every other issue affecting the community, the SGN has been and is a central force of change – for you!
Who is the Seattle Gay News?
You!
Every member of the LGBTQA+ community, and everyone who is concerned with social justice.
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” – Martin Luther King
Since its founding, social justice has been and is the central purpose of the SGN. Our late Publisher, R. George Bakan was daily committed to that purpose. His passion and work ethic, seven days a week for decades, set the bar high for our staff and volunteers.
That dedication continued to his last-minute on earth. Sadly, on Sunday, June 7th, 2020, George passed while working at his desk. Those of us who knew and loved George may take comfort in knowing he was in a good place when he passed – he was proud and inspired to see social activism alive and well in Seattle as an example for the world.
Independent journalism is now more important than ever. In this critical transition, your support will allow one of the most resilient independent publications in the United States to cover our day-to-day expenses, expand our distribution, as well as update and enhance our internet presence. With your help, we will be able to maintain George’s legacy and continue to be your voice for the community!
Will your goal cover your costs?
Yes! Funds raised will go toward operating costs, including rent, utilities, printing costs, and staff.
Thank you for your support! Please see our June 12, 2020 edition
and June 27, 2020 Pride edition
commemorating the life and legacy of our beloved Editor-in-Chief/Publisher and friend, George Bakan along with Pride-related content, news, and community advertising.
Please watch the following tribute to George and learn why SGN needs your support.
