Apparently there's one place where the Enterprise wasn't quite bold enough to go: anyplace gay. Trek writer David Gerrold had plans to introduce gay characters on The Next Generation, but homophobic forces behind the scenes prevented it. Fortunately, his script was eventually produced by fans.
