(SHOWCASE) BOOM TOWN WILD WEST!
BOOM TOWN WILD WEST - A film by Greg Lee and Steven Cahill
The people of Williston, North Dakota are sitting on top of the largest oil reserve in North America. It is estimated that the black gold will be gushing for at least twenty more years.
As would be expected, Williston is booming with low single digit unemployment -- but at what price?
BOOM TOWN WILD WEST is part human interest story, interviewing people of all ages -- from those who can't afford to live in their homes anymore to the local land owners who have become overnight millionaires.
We will visit the school teacher who can't keep his kids in class (money trumps education), the cafe owner who has to pay his waitresses twenty dollars an hour, and if we are lucky, some “ladies of the night” fresh from Vegas, the former land of nocturnal opportunity. This town has fifty men for every woman!
People are moving here in droves from the farthest points on the globe hoping to get their piece of the pie -- even if it means flipping burgers at McDonald's for 17 bucks an hour.
This is just the tip of the iceberg (or the top of the oil well) for the stories we are likely to unearth. Co-Creator, Greg Lee, a veteran of television and theater, grew up in Williston and still has close ties to the town. Greg's connections will open the necessary doors.
The possibilities are endless. After all, in the unpredictable world of documentary filmmaking, one must allow for any compelling story to present itself and take the spotlight.
You have definitely not heard the last of it from these "Wild Westerners"!
We would love to have you on board. Please support this amazing project.
