Will’s paternal grandmother Kate could not be more different from his maternal grandmother Marlena.
While Marlena has thoughtfully let Will confide in her about his
sexuality at a pace in which he is comfortable, Kate essentially says to
him: “I’ve always known you were gay.”
You hope she means it when she tells him she doesn’t “give a damn”
about his sexuality and loves him no matter what. But Will admits
nothing to her.
Later he runs into Marlena and looking very wide-eyed and vulnerable
he says of his feelings: “You try and ignore them and you try pushing
them away. But it’s not working for me. I think I might be gay!"
