There was no big surprise how this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 4/Episode 9) ended. However, there was a dramatic twist added at the end that no one saw coming. Here’s what happened. As you know, we’re down to the ‘Final Fab Five’ (Chad Michaels; DiDa Ritz; PhiPhi O’Hara; Sharon Needles; Latrice Royale). The mini-challenge for this episode was to design a pair of platform heels inspired by a flavor of Absolut Vodka. PhiPhi O’Hara was the winner of the mini-challenge. I’m not sure what she won. It would have been nice if it was a case of each of the flavors of Absolut Vodka, but I don’t think that happened.
The main challenge was “Frock the Vote”, where the girls had to create a political platform to run on, and participate in a mock presidential debate. I hated Chad Michaels the most in this challenge. She came out in afro-puffs and disco wear. Really? For the first time, Chad was anything but a ‘professional’. I can’t check any of the other girls’ on their political looks; they were all classy and appropriate. However, DiDa Ritz and Latrice Royal’s debate performances were dull, dull, dull. PhiPhi O’Hara’s ‘Sarah Palin’ impersonation was hysterical until she made that ‘the help’ joke directed at DiDa and Latrice. I’m sure PhiPhi didn’t mean any harm, but the remark was definitely ‘suspect’, meaning it’s possibly a racist remark, but I’m not going to go there. Sharon Needles’ debate performance was serious, funny, and relevant. As far as I’m concerned, Sharon Needles gets my vote.
The runway challenge theme was ‘Inaugural Ball’. Chad Michaels’ runway look was my favorite. Her look was a throw-back from the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’. She wore a gown that ‘Eve’ from ‘All About Eve’ would have worn when she accepted the Tony at the end of the movie. Sharon Needles look was next best. Although her dress was made out of pantyhose, the design was elegant with a tad bit of edginess to it. She ended up being named the winner of this week’s main challenge, and she totally deserved it.
DiDa Ritz and Latrice Royale’s runway looks were the worst out the bunch. While I would definitely give their looks snaps for being ‘ghetto fabulous’, that’s not what the challenge called for. What they wore would be more appropriate for the ‘Hip Hop Music Awards’, as opposed to the ‘Inaugural Ball’. This mistake put them both in the bottom two.
DiDa and Latrice had to ‘lip-sync for their life’ to Gladys Knight and the Pips’s “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination”. This song definitely had DiDa confused, and she was just lost trying to perform to the song. Whereas, Miss Latrice Royal had me screaming for more. This was an ‘old school’ song, and Latrice is an ‘old school’ girl who definitely worked it out. Latrice’s performance is what we Christians call ‘taking you to church’. DiDa knew she lost, even before RuPaul said ‘sashay away’.
I’m glad Latrice was in the bottom two this week, because I’ve been waiting to see her ‘lip-sync for life’. And all I can say, is the bitch got some skills. If Chad Michaels ever has to ‘lip-sync for your life’ against Latrice Royale, she might be pushed out of my top two. But who knows, maybe Chad has some skills too. She is a self proclaimed ‘professional’, mind you. We will see.
Like I stated earlier, a dramatic twist was added to the mix at the end. Michelle Visage and Santino gets to choose which one of the eliminated girls gets to return to the competition next week. If Willam wouldn’t have ‘broke the rules’, I would hope for her return. So instead, I’m hoping for the return of Kenya Michaels. All will be revealed next week, so stay tuned.
