This week’s episode of
RuPaul’s Drag Race (Season 4/Episode 8) was downright sickening.
Literally. Last week, I was shocked to see Willam in the bottom two
with Jiggly. This week, I’m absolutely horrified to see her ‘sashay
away’. And it’s not because she puked (off-stage thankfully) while the
judges were giving their critiques. Nor was it because she was in the
bottom two again. Willam’s performance was polished as usual, and she
ended up being named one of the winners of this week’s main challenge.
I’m really not sure what happened, but I can tell you how it all went
down.
This week was
the ‘Frenemy Episode’. There really wasn’t a mini-challenge in this
episode. What they did instead was have all the girls take a
lie-detector test to get to the “T”, if you know what I mean. For this
week’s main challenge, the girls had to compete as teams. The results
from the lie-detector tests were used to decide who would be teamed up
together. It ended up being complete opposites on teams together.
Willam and Latrice Royal were teamed up together. Then Chad Michaels
and DiDa Ritz paired up. And last but not least was PhiPhi O’Hara and
Sharon Needles on a team together. Talk about a match made in Hell.
For
the main challenge, the girls had to perform a song & dance routine
modeled after the ‘Roxy & Velma’ song in ‘Chicago’. The catch was,
the girls had to sing in their own voice, no lip-syncing. As I
mentioned before, Willam and Latrice were named the winners of this
week’s main challenge. And if I had to pick the best of the two, I
would choose Willam. Willam had good vocals, added physical comedy to
the act, and designed Latrice’s look for her. A look that actually
looked good on her. In my book, that makes Willam a ‘genius’. That
being said, and sadly to say, Willam still had to ‘sashay away’ because
she ‘broke the rules’. No one knows what Willam did exactly, but all
will be revealed in the ‘Reunion Episode’.
PhiPhi
O’Hara and Sharon Needles ended up in the bottom two. No surprise
there. There was no chemistry in their routine. PhiPhi was absolutely
unwilling to work as a team. I think Sharon Needles figured early on
that she was going to be in the bottom two, because that bitch was ready
when it was time to ‘lip-sync for your life’. They had to lip-sync to
“It’s Raining Men (The Sequel)” by Martha Wash & RuPaul. Since
they’ve both never been in the bottom two and had to ‘lip-sync for their
life’, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I thought PhiPhi was going to mop
up the floor with Sharon, but that did not happen. PhiPhi was
definitely more animated, while Sharon’s performance had a storytelling
aspect to it. For a moment it was too close to call, then PhiPhi broke
what I think should be ‘cardinal rules’. DO NOT take your heels off to
perform, and DO NOT take your wig off while performing. And PhiPhi did
both. If the judges had to pick between the two who had to ‘sashay
away’, I guarantee it would be PhiPhi O’Hara. Luckily for her, it
didn’t come to that. However, if PhiPhi ever have to ‘lip-sync for her
life’ again, I don’t think she would make it out alive.
Now
that I’ve seen PhiPhi’s lip-sync skills, and because of Willam’s
untimely departure, I have chosen my top two. It’s a ‘Battle of the
Titans’ featuring Chad Michaels and Sharon Needles.
And may the best
woman win.
