And the first elimination of the season goes to … an athlete! NBA star Ron Artest and Aussie newcomer Peta Murgatroyd, who had the lowest score of premiere night [a 14 for a crazy Cha Cha], were cut from the competition.
It was a bit of a surprise that Italian model Elisabetta Canalis didn’t end up in the bottom three, seeing as she had the second lowest score of the night with a 15, and is unlikely to have a large fanbase in America. When asked if she expected to be safe tonight, she said, “I was hoping. I was very sad.” She and partner Val Chmerkovskiy are doing the Quick Step next week.
One of the best parts of results shows is when they reveal the subtitles to what the cast and judges say before and after performances, which don’t air on the Monday show. The best overheard comments were: “She was like a lost little girl,” said Len Goodman about Elisabetta’s lackluster performance. Second best comment: Metta saying, “Impossible!” after getting the low score of the night.
But the best TV moment – possibly of all “DWTS” shows I’ve seen – is watching Bruno Tonioli shake his moneymaker, shirtless, on top of the judges’ table with Carrie Ann Inaba during LMFAO’s performance. There also was a tender moment when Chaz Bono made it through with the cast giving him extra hugs when he and Lacey Schwimmer were deemed safe.
