An icon of Portland’s gay community and entertainment business will appear in court TODAY after being arrested.

   

Portland police say Walter Cole, 80, better known as the cross-dressing entertainer "Darcelle XV," faces misdemeanor harassment charges after arguing with OLCC officers outside his club Thursday night in the Old Town neighborhood.

Cole reportedly scuffled with the OLCC officials during an argument about an underage person being served alcohol at the popular nightclub.

Cole, appearing as his drag queen persona Darcelle, was the grand marshal for the Rose Festival Starlight Parade at this year's Rose Festival.

Cole has produced and operated a nightclub featuring a bawdy gender-bending act in Portland for over 40 years.
