Thor hammered the competition over the weekend, pulling in $66 million and exceeding studio expectations. Though
Thor is a lesser-known comic book title, the movie was Marvel's third-highest opening for a new franchise, behind the $115 million pulled in by
Spider-Man in 2002, and the $98.6 million
Iron Man reeled in three years ago.
Fast Five also continued strong in its second weekend, taking in an additional $32.5 million to bring its domestic total to $140 million. Which movie didn't do so hot?
The Beaver. The Mel Gibson-helmed film made $104,000 at 22 theaters.
