Did Sarah Palin just jump into the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" fray? The TLC star retweeted a conservative lesbian blogger's tweet about "homos" last night—and it's a line that backs dropping the policy and allowing gays to serve openly in the military. While commenting on DADT, Tammy Bruce tweeted that "the more someone complains about the homos, the more we should look under their bed," implying the complainers may be gay themselves. Did Palin not understand the tweet when she tacked it onto to her Twitter page, or is she coming out in support of DADT repeal and gay rights, wonders Max Read at Gawker.
Bruce believes Palin's use of her tweet is her "first comment on DADT, treatment of gays and attempts to marginalize us—thank you, Governor." That explanation could be a valid one, concedes Read, who notes that Palin's DADT stance in February was "a sort of feeble 'not right now.'" On the other hand, muses Read, maybe she thinks we "should be looking for gay people under beds." Regardless, "a major political figure should probably not be using the word 'homos,' or quoting its use, even in a vaguely pro-gay rights context."
