ISSUES: Seattle Murder-Rape Suspect of Lesbian Lashes Out in Court!

Isaiah Kalebu (23), the suspect accused of brutally raping and killing Teresa Butz (39) and raping and slashing her 37-year-old partner in July 2009, lashed out in a Seattle courtroom today. Kalebu knocked over a chair and demanded to be released from jail immediately. He was removed from court by three King County Jail officers while he cursed and yelled.

Earlier in the week, Superior Court Judge Michael Hayden ruled that Kalebu is competent to stand trial so today's court hearing was to schedule a trial. He has a long history of mental illness and has been evaluated four times since 2008 at Western State Hospital. Due to this mental history, King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg is not seeking the death penalty but will instead seek aggravated first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree rape and first-degree burglary. If Kalebu is convicted on the aggravated first-degree murder charge, he will get an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or early release.
