Scott Herman is on the cover of the current issue of the Palm Springs-based gay magazine Pulp wearing nothing but a pair of white briefs and a pair of sunglasses.
Inside the magazine, the muscular Real World alum talks at length about his fight for gay rights. Even though Scott has a big gay fan base, he himself is straight and that’s why he is in a unique position to call on straight men to become allies of the gay community.
“I have always been a seeker of truth and an advocate for justice,” Scott says. “Some people wonder why a straight guy would fight for the rights of the gay community. They assume I must be gay. It doesn’t matter to me what people think because true equality means we don’t look at people as straight or gay – just people.”
Scott is not bothered when he is hit on by guys: “Whenever a guy hits on me, I smile. I’m thankful to be good looking enough to attract a gay man. They’re ten times pickier than women….It doesn’t bother me. We all have our fantasies.”
Here is how he explains his popularity with the gay community: “I think that just like in any relationship, it began with looks. I model and have some photos that some of the gay blogs posted. However, as relationships go on, looks matter less because there are plenty more good looking dudes out there. I think the reason the LGBT community continues to support me is because they know my advocacy is legit. The same blogs who first referred to me as a ‘hot piece of ass’ now write thoughtful posts about me because they know I am genuine in my case.”
Scott is often photographed wearing next to nothing but he has no plans on baring all for Playgirl: “Posing for Playgirl isn’t on my agenda. I am fighting for equality, not attention.”
He does love showing off his physique: “I have spent 14 years sculpting my body. Just like a sculptor enjoys showing off his hard work, I do too. I also know that others are inspired by my photos. I was inspired by the physiques of the guys in my gym and the heroes in my comics.”
