CULTURE: Giuliano is sad to leave GLAAD, happy to join the SF AIDS Foundation

Former Tempe, Ariz. mayor Neil Giuliano will be the new CEO of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, SFGATE.com reports.

Giuliano, who was most recently the president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, will bring energy and media savvy to the organization, said Lorna Thornton, chair of the foundations' board.

"His distinguished track record of accomplishments in the public and nonprofit sectors is outdone only by his vision for the future -- a future when HIV infection rates plunge," she said in a statement.

The foundation was established in 1982 to combat the spread of AIDS in San Francisco.
