Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar became so upset with Bill O’Reilly that they stormed off the set of The View today, Mediaite reports. The View hosts were in the midst of a debate with the Fox personality over the so-called “Ground Zero mosque” when Goldberg declared “this is such bullshit” and walked away. The two returned after O’Reilly said he was sorry if he had offended anybody.
Bill O’Reilly was today’s guest and the group was discussing the proposed Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero. Things got increasingly heated then boiled over when O’Reilly said, “Muslims killed us on 9/11!”
Joy Behar: “Oh my God!”
Whoopi Goldberg: “That is such bullshit! Extremists did that!”
Joy then stood up and said: “I don’t want to sit here now. I don’t! I’m outraged by that statement.”
She and Whoopi walked off the set to loud applause.
Barbara Walters, the show’s creator and an executive producer was not pleased and took control: “You have just seen what should not happen. We should be able to have discussions without washing our hands, and screaming, and walking offstage.”
Then she turned her attention to O’Reilly: “You cannot take a whole religion and demean them because of what some [did].”
O’Reilly also apologized for his comments, saying, “If anyone felt that I was demeaning all Muslims, I apologize.”
Behar and Goldberg returned to the set following a commercial break.
