It is a beauty pageant unlike any other. Gay, Lesbian, and Transgender contestants from across the Pacific Northwest will descend on Seattle's Capitol Hill on September 25th to compete in the 2010 Mr & Miss Gay Asian/Pacific Islander Pageant. This year’s pageant beneficiary will be GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight, Education Network of Washington).
"This is our opportunity to put a face on a segment of the population that is often overlooked within the traditional Asian American community," said David Luc Nguyen, co-founder of the API event. "Once a year, we showcase the incredible beauty, talent, and diversity within the Queer Asian community on a grand stage."
The pageant will be a feast for the eyes. Contestants will be all dolled up and dressed in spectacular outfits: Their national costume, Evening Wear, and Swimsuit. And as if the Talent portion of the event is not enough API has arranged for some world class entertainment.
The opening act guaranteed to please are The Massive Monkees, as seen on MTV’s "America’s Best Dance Crew" will bring down the house with one of their b-boy breakdance routines. Other nationally recognized performers slated to take the stage include the beautiful burlesque dancer, Shanghai Pearl, and drag queen legends Arnaldo! Drag Chantuese and Smokee as Cher! There will also be appearances by: Perla Welch the Reigning Universal ShowQueen, Miss Gay Seattle GLAMAZONIA, R Place's Hostess Lady Chablis (doing a choreographed production number) and the newly crown La Femme Magnifique Lily Armani.
The evening will be hosted by four of Seattle’s favorite Asian Drag Divas – Regina King, Shaka Kwan, Gaysha Starr and Teriyaki Temple.
