The Today Show has selected the four finalists for its “Hometown Wedding Contest” and none of them are same-sex couples, according to The Huffington Post.
It was only after a lot of pushback from GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) that NBC’s popular morning show agreed to open up its annual contest to gay and lesbian couples.
It would be interesting to know how many couples applied for the contest overall and how many of them were same-sex pairs. I don’t know what the criteria was but you have to wonder if NBC just didn’t want to ignite more controversy by choosing a bride and a bride or a groom and a groom.
Earlier this summer, NBC had initially sent GLAAD this statement regarding the 2010 Modern Day Wedding Contest: “For the TODAY show wedding, the couple must be able to be legally married in New York, which is where the wedding will take place.”
GLAAD pointed out that The Today Show is awarding a wedding celebration, not a marriage license.
My preference in Gay Morning America with My Sam, Robin, George, David, Jeffrey, etc!
