HEALTH: The Effects of Biting Each Other!

Love means never having to retract your fangs. That's apparently what copycat teens are taking away from the bodice-ripper Twilight films, so they're biting one another to prove their love. There's just one problem: parents are going positively werewolf about it. The vampire hickey is the latest way young lovers are marking their "territory," one teen tells CBS News. But "we have to remember, any time there's a break in the skin, especially with the human mouth, it's loaded with bacteria. You can set up for potentially some serious skin infections," warns CBS medical reporter Dr. Jennifer Ashton.

Parents aren't only worried about physical health issues. "This really concerns me because it has to do with possession," writes parenting blogger Vanessa Van Petten. "We're talking about something that's about ownership, possessing your friends." Notes Ashton: "This is a way of marking a person, and it's a form of emotional and physical abuse."
