Gen. Stanley McChrystal will retire from the Army after 34 years in uniform and one devastating Rolling Stone profile. " McChrystal informed the Army today that he intends to retire, " said a rep, but "we don’t have a date yet or anything like that." Whether he will retire with the four-star rank he gained when he was put in charge of American and NATO forces in Afghanistan last year is now at issue, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Because McChrystal has not had his fourth star for the mandated 3 years, he would need a presidential waiver to retire "in grade," a prospect that is already ruffling feathers. "I think that’s as wrong as the incident itself," says one fellow officer.
