CULTURE: Anna Paquin says she “just wanted to do my bit” for equality by coming out publicly as bisexual

If only more people were as self-aware about and comfortable with their sexuality as Anna Paquin, the 27-year-old Academy Award winning actress who currently stars on HBO’s True Blood.

A few months ago, Anna did a PSA for a gay advocacy group True Colors First in support of equality and in it she disclosed that she is bisexual.

She recently told Zap2It: “I’m not someone who endlessly talks about her personal life for no reason, but obviously, as someone who identifies as bisexual, those are issues I really care about — and frankly, I don’t see why everybody doesn’t care about them. So when I was asked to participate … it was just an obvious, ‘Well, of course I will.”

Anna, who is engaged to True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer, said her sexuality has been no secret to those who know her: “It was just a cause I cared about and privately supported, but not one that I had ever had an opportunity to speak out about in a way that would be useful. Obviously I know that one person’s voice doesn’t necessarily do that much, but I just wanted to do my bit.”
