(SHOWcase) Adoptable! - Season One!

ADOPTABLE! is an awkward and bittersweet comic web series written by and starring Scott Lowell loosely based on his own experiences searching for his birth parents back in the late ’90’s. It is presented as a documentary being directed by Jennifer Lim (Linda Park of TV’s “Enterprise” & “Crash”) which follows successful actor and adult adoptee Scott Fishman (Lowell, "Queer as Folk", "Bones") of the hit TV show “Cops & Bottoms” in which he co-stars with Jerry O’Connell ("Sliders", "Stand By Me", "Jerry Maguire") as a fictionalized version of himself. Bowing somewhat to pressure from his fiancĂ©, Lisa Crane (Emily Swallow, “The Mentalist”, “Monday Mornings”) and their therapist Bob Raskin (Jim O’Heir of “Parks and Recreation”) as well as his own desire to know himself a bit better before getting married and starting a family, Fishman embarks on the journey of seeking out his birth parents. He is aided along the way by an intermediary named Mary Elizabeths played by multi-Emmy Award® winner Sharon Gless (“Cagney & Lacey”, “Burn Notice”, “Queer as Folk”).

(SHOWcase) A Very Sordid Wedding - film sequel by Del Shores!

Sordid Lives, by Del Shores, hit the big screen in 2000 and became a huge cult hit phenomenon with its hilarious and authentic exploration of the antics of the residents of Winters, TX. The film was followed by Sordid Lives: The Series, a prequel for LOGO. Now, after years of fans asking for a follow up with these beloved characters, Del Shores has written a sequel, the final chapter in the Sordid Lives saga - A Very Sordid Wedding.

The original film explored the coming out story and how conservative southern families deal with gay family members. The sequel picks up 16 years later and continues the comedic exploration of important issues by addressing marriage equality. The characters audiences fell so in love with have all moved forward to new places, some good, some ridiculous, and as always with this colorful cast - always entertaining.

Del Shores has spent this entire year writing the new script, bringing back all of these beloved characters and carefully shaping what they are each up to after so many years. The story is once again hilarious, touching and addressing an issue affecting LGBT people and their communities and families with Del's trademark subversive humor and heart. SUPPORT This Project.

(SHOWcase) Inside MK's Secret Project!

Our very own, MK Scott (whose Full name is Michael Scott Shafer-Montgomery) has been working on a secret project for as long as OUTview has been in existence.

MK says he wouldn't be who he is today without his Mentor, James N. Erickson, a legend in the Portland Theater Community. Erickson was the Theater Arts Teacher for Beaverton High School for 29 years, until his retirement in 1999 and his eventual death in 2004. Erickson was like a Broadway caliber Director, Choreographer, Designer and Producer all at the same time.  As MK has mentioned on more than one occasion, several other notables got their start under the style of Erickson, including our very own Jesse Archer (Jesse on the Brink, Four Letter Word) as well as Broadway stars, Brooks Ashmanskas (currently seen in on Broadway in 'Bullets over Broadway') and Shoshana Bean (Wicked) and Recording artists like, Stephanie Schneiderman.

As the keeper of the past and how we can create more talent in the future, MK has carried on the Erickson Legacy with creating a Fund to help to preserve the legacy and to help keep After-School Theater Programs alive.

(OUTscene AMERICA) Hunky Rib Hillis wants your help in getting his film “Birthday Cake” served up in RedBox and Netflix!

Last fall, I had the pleasure of attending Birthday cake at SLGFF and was by far the Best.

It is a sequel to a short film called Groom Cake that I saw at the Palm Springs gay & lesbian fest which told the story of the three days leading up to two guys getting married – they are played by writer-director Chad Darnell and Rib Hillis who is the naked guy in the photo that got our attention!
The feature film covers the three days leading up to the first birthday party for the baby they have adopted and adds to the cast such well-known names as Helen Shaver, Lee Meriwether, and Helen Shaver. Peter Paige appears in both films.

Like all indie films, the key is distribution. In May, Birthday Cake will be distributed through Ariztical Entertainment and available on mulitple platforms of Video On Demand, Video Download and DVD.

But the filmmakers we want to get the movie into Red Box.

Red Box traditionally does not stock LGBT genre films but did stock the documentary Bridegroom which did well.

Redbox is currently reviewing the movie for consideration and Netflix is next and filmmakers want to create more buzz and social media presence for the movie. Click HERE to find out how you can help.

(SHOWcase) DADDY - a new film based on the hit play!

Colin is a stud. Stew, not so much. They've been virtually inseparable for 20+ years. But now Colin has fallen for a much younger man.

Colin McCormack (Gerald McCullouch) thinks he has it all — a great job, a steady stream of hot younger guys, and a best friend, Stew (Dan Via), whose devotion he takes for granted. But when a charming and mercurial intern sweeps him off his feet, Colin sees a chance for something more: A family of his own. What he discovers instead is a shattering truth that may cost Colin everything -- and everyone -- he holds dear.

By turns funny and heartbreaking, DADDY explores the universal need for love and connection, and the evolving understanding of "family" in today's rapidly changing world. Following a buzz-heavy world premiere in New York and an extended run in LA, the critical smash play by actor/writer Dan Via is now coming to the big screen in a film directed by Gerald McCullouch (Bear City). Alex will face challenges in Season 2 that make him question his true goals, and test him in ways he didn't expect. Tommy, TJ, and the whole cast of characters will grow and change and the show will go deeper into their relationships and their lives. Season 1 was just the beginning -- wait til you see what we've got in store for you next!

Jon Marcus, the creator of the show, paid for Season One out of his own savings, and then he borrowed the money to finish to show. We sold enough downloads to pay back the loans, but he can't pay for any more of the series himself.

(SHOWcase) Torrey Pines: An animated film about Schizophrenia!

A stop-motion animated adventure film: Coming of age with an undiagnosed schizophrenic single mother in San Diego in the 1980s.

Torrey Pines is a feature film based on a true story by stop-motion animator Clyde Petersen. The film is a queer punk coming-of-age tale, taking place in Southern California in the late 80's and early 1990's. Raised by a schizophrenic single mother, Petersen's life story unfolds in a series of baffling and hallucinated events. With a mother fueled by hallucinations of political conspiracy and family disfunction, Petersen is kidnapped at the age of 12 and taken on a cross-country adventure that will forever alter the family as they know it.

In those awkward teen years, from George Bush 1.0 to Bill Clinton to George Bush 2.0, it's a time of technological growth in American homes. Desktop computer and personal cell phone use is on the rise. Our culture transforms from a place where a person talking to themselves alone in public is labeled as "crazy," to a time where you are an outcast if you don't have a mobile phone and it is perfectly acceptable to rant and rave in public to an invisible person.

(SHOWcase) Blonde: A Short Film!

Creepy, thrilling and unnerving. Possibly heartwarming. Watch the trailer. Help make it!

The Story (according to Joanna Strange)
I can’t really say too much without giving too much away - after all, it is a short film. Here is what you need to know: There is a young woman. There is a man. She is looking for something. He may have it. He may not.

What I believe makes this story unique is that this is atypical for a thriller (I can say it is a thriller). She does not have daddy issues. She doesn’t jump from relationship to relationship. She isn’t the bitchy best friend, but she isn’t the ingenue. She isn’t the insecure klutz, but she isn’t the pageant winner. I’m not sure what she is, but she is certainly unusual and I have loved writing her. I keep my fingers crossed that Anita Sarkeesian cannot determine her trope. Support US Here!

(SHOWcase) No Pay, Nudity!

A film about actors starring some of the world's best actors: Ted Levine, Laurie Metcalf, Nathan Lane and more.

My movie project tells a story about the private world of actors, a world that's funny, and bittersweet, and rich with creativity. It's a world where incredible bonds form.

I asked Ethan Sandler, a friend and talented screenwriter, to write a script that would capture all of the drama that happens to actors off camera: the heartbreaks and the joy, but most important, the friendships that keep us going through even the bleak times.

And then all these great actors fell in love with his finished script for No Pay, Nudity and signed on.
We all have long careers on Broadway, and in film and TV, like Laurie Metcalf a brilliant stage actress who you also know as Roseanne's sister Jackie, or Ted Levine, who you know from the current hit show The Bridge, the TV series Monk and in his terrifying role as Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs, and Jessica Hecht, the Broadway and TV star who had that great supporting role on Friends. You know Nathan Lane from a multitude of wonderful projects including The Birdcage and The Producers and his recent Tony nominated performance in The Nance.

Our cast also includes the talented actors Boyd Gaines, J. Smith Cameron, Austin Pendleton, Mark Blum, Jeremy Shamos, Jeanine Serrales, Zoe Perry, Joel Higgins, Reg Rogers, Peter Jacobson, Alex Draper, John Bedford Lloyd, Cory Michael Smith, Benjamin Sinclair, Danny Binstock, Ellen Foley and Brent Spiner, the comedian Lewis Black, and the incredible Loudon Wainwright III, who is creating the original music.

And there's me, director Lee Wilkof. My first big break was playing Seymour in the Off-Broadway hit Little Shop of Horrors. Please Support our Kickstarter Campaign by Oct 10th!

(OUTscene NW) COVERAGE: Portland's 4th HRC Dinner was Magic!

DLB was an angel       /MKS
by MK Scott

Up until a few years ago, Portland never hosted an Annual HRC Gala. This evening was always celebrated at the Pacific NW Dinner in Seattle, and Portland members came to that one. Now Portland has one and hosted its 4th Annual Gala this past Saturday in the Gardens of Lewis and Clark College. With over 600 attendees, the gala was the place to be on  a Hot summer night. The atmosphere felt like a wedding as attendees wore summer business casual compare to the regular Black tie style.
