PIECE OF ASS: Brit Busted for Hawking the Butt of Saddam Statue!

A British company official has been arrested after auctioning a buttock section of the massive Saddam Hussein bronze statue toppled when US forces stormed Baghdad in 2003. The arrest was made after the Iraqi government issued a complaint to British police following an auction in Derby, where the two-foot hunk of metal failed to fetch the minimum price of $375,000 set for the sale. Under a 2003 British law, all cultural property seized in Iraq must be handed over to police, reports the BBC.

The bronze butt was offered for sale by Trebletap, a company that specializes in turning war memorabilia into art. Company director Jim Thorpe was busted and has been released on bail. The firm's founder, Nigel Ely, is a former SAS soldier who was working for British TV on the scene when the statue was pulled down. He used a sledgehammer and chisel to remove the statue's "bum," he told the BBC. He claims that when he asked a US Marine if he could take the souvenir, he was told: "No problem, Buddy. Help yourself." He said he planned to sell it to raise money for an unspecified charity. He has been ordered not to dispose of the metal rear or alter it until the case is resolved. A Trebletop spokesman has said the bronze bum is being held in a secret location.

It's been a rough couple of weeks for Sinead O'Connor, culminating in a desperate series of tweets yesterday. "does any1 know a psychiatrist in dublin or wicklow who could urgently see me today please? im really un-well... and in danger," she tweeted. She tells the Sun she had attempted suicide last Thursday in LA by taking an overdose of pills, then tried again two days ago after being treated for a broken ankle in an Irish hospital. "i realise i will be in trouble 4 doing this but.. ireland is a VERY hard place to find help in. So having tried other ways 1st im asking," she posted. She explains to the Sun, "I just had to make a cry for help." She went so far as posting an email address where she could be reached . What set her off? Apparently, an Irish newspaper article that claimed her drug counselor husband was counseling addicted teens while Sinead looked to score drugs. See the Huffington Post for more of the tweets.

WASTED: No Pets for 3 Years After Man's Puppy Drinks Vodka!

Attention dog owners: Next time you're drinking vodka and Coke, don't leave your glass on the floor. Matthew Cox, 26, did just that, went outside to have a cigarette, and returned to find that his 6-month-old Labrador puppy, Max, had finished his drink for him. The Brit was too drunk to help the swaying puppy, and ended up leaving him with his roommate when he went out to DJ, the BBC reports. Now Cox has been banned from having a dog for three years, and Max has found a new home. Police were alerted to the situation by two girls who saw Max, staggering and falling, outside stores near Cox's home.

Officers later found Max at Cox's home, the Daily Mail reports. They brought him to a vet for emergency treatment, where he was put on an IV drip for nearly a full day to recover. Cox pleaded guilty to failure to ensure an animal's welfare, and the judge who handed down the three-year ban called his actions "just downright stupid."

(Marriage News Watch): Civil Unions and Beyond in 2012!

by Matt Baume Welcome to 2012! We got a lot of work to do this year, so let's roll up our sleeves and get to work. The new year marks new civil union laws in Delaware, Hawaii, and California. Psychologists in North Carolina lash out at anti-gay prejudice, LGBTs can marry in Cancun -- probably -- and something fishy's going on with civil unions in the European Union.
