NoahGLAAD

The organizers behind this week's Transgender Awareness Week (November 15-20) hope to bridge that divide and win equality for all Americans and  GLAAD and the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition's  "I AM" video series could go a long way in achieving that goal.
Transgender Awareness Week climaxes on the 20th, Transgender Day of Remembrance, the annual commemoration of fallen friends who were targeted for their gender identity.

(MY view) Call for Miss Universe to Adopt a Fully Inclusive Policy!

by Laverne Cox

I was very moved when I found out that the Miss Universe organization would allow Jenna Talackova to compete, reversing their earlier decision to disqualify her because she is transgender. The organization's statement asserted that she will be allowed to compete only "provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions." It's wonderful that the organization has stated that it will allow Jenna to compete, but it needs to go further. The Miss Universe organization needs to make a public statement saying that it is working to revise its policy once and for all so that the competition is open to all women, and it must set a deadline for the written revision of the policy.

TRANS-PLANT: Man Asks for Help, Says Swedish Government Forcing Him to Get Sterilized for Being Transgender!

Trans_sweden
The Swedish Government mandates forced sterilization of any trangender person who wants to legally change his or her gender.
Love Georg Elfvelin, a 21 year old store manager in Sweden, explains, in a new video: "I'm trans. That means I am born in a female body but my heart says I'm a man. I'm speaking out today because the Swedish government is forcing thousands of people like me to make an impossible choice. If I need to change the gender of my identity cards to reflect my true self, just a small change from an 'F' to an 'M', my country forces me to be sterilized."

SASHAY: RuPaul Likes The Word 'Tranny'!

RuPaul is done with political correctness. In an interview with Michelangelo Signorile doomed to get a lot of ugly blowback -- and which was recapitulated by Signorile at at HuffPo -- she rails against the tranny taboo ...
On Lance Bass's apology for using the word "tranny" Rupaul says: "It's ridiculous! It's ridiculous!... I love the word "tranny"...And I hate the fact that he's apologized. I wish he would have said, 'F-you, you tranny jerk!'"
... and against criticism of ABC's defunct Work It ...
... Of the ABC sitcom, "Work It," in which two straight men dress in drag in order to get jobs and which has been criticized by gay and transgender activists for mocking transgender women, RuPaul implores the activists: "Don't take life so seriously... We live in a culture where everyone is offended by everything."
... while stumping for the new season of her show, RuPaul's Drag Race, which she says is "influenced by the Gaga-esqe movement of today." And she's not just saying that. Signorile posted a slideshow of this season's contestants, and every single one of them looks like a permutation of Gaga.

DIDN'T WORK: ABC's 'Work It' Canceled!

ABC's cross-dressing comedy, Work It, which ABC is reporting has been canceled after only two episodes.

YOU will recall the weird furor inspired by the series last month, when ABC published a promo poster for Work It featuring two men in drag hoisting up their skirts at a urinal -- a tone deaf image, which either attempted to capitalize on or demonstrated a woeful ignorance of the ongoing debate in the United States about gender and public accommodations. But it wasn't a lack of political correctness that sunk Work It; it was a lack of audience. The show's debut drew an anemic 6.1 million viewers, and the next episode saw a 20% falloff. Work It will be replaced in its timeslot by reruns of Tim Allen's Last Man Standing.
