Garcia             via Facebook
by MK Scott

One of my TOP Films from this year's Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival was a locally produced film centered around Religion and Forbidden Love. 'The Falls' set in Portland, follows 2 missionaries as they set out to recruit new members for the Mormon Church, as the 2 young men connect to the point that they doubt thier committment to the Religion and Passion takes over and that becomes more important. I had a chance to chat with the director, Jon Garcia, just before the film's December 11th DVD Release.

(MY VIEW) Mormons and Mitt: The Myth About Separation of Church and State!

by Derrick Shore

Growing up in a devout Latter-Day Saint (Mormon) family in a suburb of Salt Lake City, I knew my religion as well as my name. My mom played the organ in a Mormon temple, I was a Boy Scout, and there was rarely a Sunday when we would miss church. Praying at least three times daily and studying the Book of Mormon were as essential as brushing our teeth or making dinner.

For the first time in American history a Mormon is the presidential nominee for a major political party. And while the Romney campaign has swiftly dismissed questions about his religion as inappropriate and irrelevant, it may seem that much of the media have tiptoed around this topic and have discussed the LDS church in glossy, broad terms. But here's why Mr. Romney's religion is relevant: For Mormons, there really is no such thing as separation of church and state.

(MY view) Was Jesus a Homophobe?

by Michelangelo Signorile

A high school principal in Waynesville, Ohio would like you to know that it is "indecent" to say that Jesus is not a homophobe. That's right. Somehow, standing up for Jesus and defending him against charges that he fears and hates people is "inappropriate." And this comes to light during Holy Week, no less. How many indignities does Jesus have to suffer?

It all began when Maverick Couch, a high school student in Waynesville, Ohio, wore a T-shirt that says "Jesus Is Not a Homophobe" to observe the annual National Day of Silence last April, a day sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Eduction Network (GLSEN) in which thousands of schools participate to bring attention to bullying in schools.

(MY view) Belief Alone Is No Basis for Public Policy!

by Nathaniel Frank

The Blunt amendment, the bill that would have allowed employers and insurers to deny health care coverage for services that are contrary to their "religious beliefs or moral convictions," has created a predictable rift between the left and the right, with each side trading election year sound bites. But the bill, which narrowly failed in the Senate last week, raises a harder -- and more interesting -- question than whether special health care exemptions are a "war on women" or a "war on religion": What constitutes a "belief" or a "moral conviction" and when should the assertion of such a belief be considered the proper basis for the giving or taking away of rights?

(SHOWCASE) New Film Documents Teen's 'Kidnapping' and Ex-gay Camp!

David
A new film, Kidnapped for Christ, exposes the "troubled teen industry" in which youth are mistreated and families seeking help for their children are exploited by Evangelical groups like 'Escuela Caribe' an Evangelical Christian reform school located in The Dominican Republic which offers "ex-gay" reparative therapy through psychological and physical abuse.

LEWD: Florida Pastor Arrested Soliciting Sex from Men in Park!

A Florida pastor was among those arrested this week in a sex sting in a public park: ClarkPolk County Sheriff's Office vice detectives arrested four men, including a pastor and a retired Canadian police officer, during an undercover operation today at Peace River Park in the Homeland area. Detectives said after they made contact with the men, the suspects exposed themselves and/or asked them to perform sex acts on them. Among those arrested was Matthew Preston Clark, 33, of Bartow, who told detectives he is senior pastor at the Blessed Assurance Temple. He was charged with soliciting a lewd act.

"It never ceases to amaze me when professionals such as preachers and law enforcement officers are engaged in such outrageous behavior," Sheriff Grady Judd said in a release. "That type of behavior is not going to be tolerated in our parks. We want to ensure that all of our parks are safe for children and their families to enjoy. "

WITCH HUNT: Hutcherson Says Washington Governor 'Trying to Put a Bullet in the Head' of Marriage!

Ken_hutcherson
Comparing her to Abraham Lincoln's assassin, pastor Ken Hutcherson, who was recently appointed to lead the charge against Washington state's marriage equality bill, used graphic and violent terms to frame Governor Chris Gregoire's decision to pursue equality there

"She might as well change her name to John Wilkes Booth because what she’s doing now is trying to put a bullet in the head of one of the greatest traditions that has ever existed and has built our society, and that is marriage between one man and one woman."
